Winemaker Sam Glaetzer leads the Cartwheel winemaking team, bringing
with him a wealth of award winning experience and the talent that has become synonymous with the Glaetzer name in Australian winemaking circles.
Sam Glaetzer is a winemaker with an unmistakable pedigree. Born in South Australia's Mt Gambier in 1974, Sam grew up amongst winemakers of an extremely high-calibre. His father, Colin, is currently working as a winemaker and Sam's uncle is well-known Wolf Blass legend John Glaetzer.
During his youth Sam lived in such renowned wine growing areas as Rutherglen, the Barossa Valley and Great Western.
Due to this constant exposure to the highs and lows of life as a winemaker and despite completing qualifications as an engineer, Sam decided to continue the Glaetzer family traditition and completed the world-famous Roseworthy winemaking course at Adelaide University.
While at university, Sam worked as a cellarhand at Barossa Valley Estates and went on to various roles within Beringer Blass, using his engineering background to become Environmental Engineer and working through to his current position as one of the Senior Winemakers.
Sam has a desire to make wines that consumers the world-over can enjoy, and is well on the way to achieving this goal with the release of the new Cartwheel range.
Married to another Beringer Blass winemaker, Kirsten Glaetzer, and with brother Ben also in the field, Sam has little chance of getting away from winemaking. However, when he does take a break, he enjoys his time mountain bike riding, cooking and travelling.
Domaines & Vineyards, established in 2009, is a collaboration between Rob Bowen, Stewart Sampson and David Rado, hand crafting unique wines from the premium Western Australian wine regions of Margaret River and Pemberton.
Labels include Bowen, Pemberton, Point Peron, Waterfall and Picaroon.
The first vines were planted in 2006 and Grace Farm was one of the first vineyards in the district to plant the vines into weed matting, avoiding the repeated use of herbicide sprays that often accompany vineyard establishment. The vines have been grown sustainably with organic based fertilizers and biodynamic composting.
Phil & Louise Snowball planted their very small vineyard on their weekend escape property in Margaret River in 2000. The property is located just west of Leeuwin Estate. After discussion with well known vigneron Bill Pannell (Moss Wood founder & currently at Picardy vineyard) it was decided to grow Bordeaux varieties with a view to making a typical Bordeaux blend. Phil and Louise wanted to produce an elegant wine rather than the often powerful high-alcohol Australian red.
Voyager Estate is located in the premium wine producing region of Margaret River, Western Australia. Latest statistics show that, although only producing 4% of Australia's wine by volume, Margaret River wines account for 23% of the country's premium wine production. Voyager Estate is proud to be among the select wineries that contribute to this production.
Our oldest vines date back to 1978, just over 10 years after vines were first planted in the area. When current owner, Michael Wright, took over the property in 1991, he set out to expand it and develop a visitor destination that would be a showcase for the region. He also set out to ensure that, above all else, the quality of wine being made at Voyager Estate would always be the best that nature, expertise and pure hard work could provide. We leave it for wine lovers and our visitors to judge for themselves.
Established in 1973 by David and Heather Watson, Woodlands is one of Margaret River's first five wineries.
Woodlands produces wine from its two vineyards, both located in the Wilyabrup Valley of Margaret River. The original Woodlands Vineyard is located on Caves Road, while the Woodlands Brook Vineyard is located two kilometres to the northeast.
Woodlands' Vineyards are dry grown and maintained by hand using organic and traditional methods.
Wines produced include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Merlot blends, and Chardonnay. All Woodlands wines are made on site by the Watson family.
