The Geyerhof is situated on the southern slopes of the Danube Valley east of Krems and forms part of the Lower Austrian wine region known as Kremstal (Krems Valley). Here, Josef and Ilse Maier cultivate 15 hectares of vineyards in optimal sites which are distinguished by their proximity to the Danube River. Noticeable temperature differences between day and night encourage the development of distinctive aromas and from the basis for top-quality wines. The special character and personality of the wines are however marked by Josef and Ilse Maier's passion for wine and love for nature as well as tradition and joie de vivre, all of which influence their way of life and their decisions.
Historically, Weingut Stadt Krems arose from two sources. The first source is the property of the Bürgerspitalstiftung - In 1210, Duke Leopold IV of Babenberg founded a public hospital in Krems and left important legacies to it, including vineyards. The second source was the generous bequest of the imperial Burggrave of Krems, Ulrich von Dachsberg, who presented the town with vineyards in 1452.
