San Marzano is a small town in the centre of the Primitivo di Manduria DOP,
a strip of land between the seas that wash over the Puglia region. It was here that 19 winegrowers founded Cantine San Marzano. Long before the appellation of origin was created and Primitivo di Manduria was recognised worldwide, they were chasing a dream.
The Farming Cooperative La Guardiense, among the biggest wine companies in Italy, plays a relevant role in the italian wine industry. It is situated in Guardia Sanframondi, a small village in Benevento county in Southern Italy.
It was founded in 1960 thanks to the proud initiative of 33 associates and today is the symbol and the economical propeller of the whole Benevento province. A mix of ancient grape-growing art and technologies able to reach always wider national and international market targets.
La Guardiense today counts about 1.000 associates cultivating grapes on about 2.000 hectares of hilly land with an average height of 350 meters asl. The grapes are transformed by La Guardiense in wines and sparkling wines of a superior quality.
The yearly production is of about 240.000 hl.

Our story begins in 1875, when Vito Curatolo Arini decided to build a winery in the middle of his own vineyards. From the very beginning quality of the product and foreign markets were his focus. With the collaboration of a commercial expert from Switzerland, Martin Schuvabaten, Mr Curatolo learnt to fully exploit the potential of his vineyards and turned the winery into a successful Marsala exporting business. Today, direct descendants of the founder, Roberto and Sergio Curatolo, manage the winery.
