Dunnolly Estate is situated in the stunning Waipara Valley, approximately 50 kms from Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. The Dunnolly Estate Vineyard is family owned and managed by Peter Parish. It produces both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varietals and is currently in its 12th vintage.
Our vineyard is situated in the Waipara Valley, an hour north of Christchurch on the South Island of New Zealand.
The limestone slopes are studded with marine fossils creating a truly unique landscape on which to grow our grapes. For this reason our wines are estate grown and the Greystone team have an affinity & connection with the land that produces our wines, as well as the people who drink them.
Our passion extends to fishing the rivers, skiing the mountains and hunting the hills of this beautiful region, sitting down afterwards with a few friends, a good meal and a glass or two of wine. Join us on our journey in this special place.
Melness is named after a beautiful coastal village in the remote Scottish Highlands where the ancestors of the founders hale from. Characterised by passion, determination, creativity and a resonant relationship with the landscape, this unique character combines with New Zealand’s innovation to produce award winning wines that communicate with your senses in subtle and powerful ways.
Melness Wines was established in Cust, North Canterbury by Norma & Colin Marshall who planted a range of grape varieties including Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Melness also sourced grapes from a range of Canterbury Vineyards as far south as Burnham, just South of Christchurch, up as far as Waipara in the North Canterbury area. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc was eventually added to the range to complete the varietal mix.
Close co-operation between Melness Wines and the Donaldson family of Pegasus Bay winery meant the wines were made with delicacy and flare with the winemaking team of Lynnette and Matt Donaldson overseeing all facets of the winemaking process.
After many years of producing award winning wines the Marshall’s decided to retire from their vineyard and winemaking business and entered into negotiations with Kahurangi Estate Ltd another boutique family owned winery based at Upper Moutere in the Nelson region.
Amanda and Greg Day, the owners of Kahurangi Estate, wished to retain the essence and style of the Melness brand and have retained many of the former Melness contract grape growers to supply fruit from the Canterbury region and have retained the excellent winemaking skills of Lynn and Matt Donaldson with the Riesling and Chardonnay being continued to be made at Pegasus Bay Winery.
Our aim is to grow grapes of the highest quality, which fully express the features of the vineyard, and to handle these with the utmost respect.
Minimal intervention at all stages from vine to bottle typifies our approach. We believe in traditional sustainable viticultural management, low crop levels, minimal handling of fruit during processing and gentle pressing.
We allow wines to go through natural malolactic fermentation and clarify by settling. We aspire to capture the unique flavours of the vineyard in our wine.
When Takahiro Koyama, owner winemaker of Takahiro K Wines came to New Zealand in 2003, it was to study Viticulture and Oenology at Lincoln University. He was offered to work with CP Lin at Mountford Estate as a cellar hand while he was a student at Lincoln.
During his time at Mountford, Takahiro went overseas several times to experience different winemaking. First it was Weingut Keller in Rheinhessen, Germany in 2006 (Riesling) and then it was Au Bon Climat in Central Coast California in 2007 and 2008 (Pinot Noir/Chardonnay plus other varieties).
Takahiro K Wines is Takahiro’s own label, and it is represented by the ouroboros – an ancient symbol of a serpent or dragon eating its own tail, signifying rebirth or renewal.
Takahiro K wines are produced in tiny quantities using Organic practices at every level. They reflect the variety and particularity of the very special Waipara Valley soil types and vineyard sitings.
