Description:
Coombe Yarra Valley is a significant heritage site in Melbourne, deeply connected to the history of the Yarra Valley wine region. Originally part of the St Huberts vineyard in Coldstream, the property was purchased in the late 1880s by David Mitchell, a renowned stonemason responsible for some of Melbourne’s most iconic structures, including the Royal Exhibition Building and Scots Church. Mitchell’s daughter, the legendary Australian opera singer Dame Nellie Melba, built her retreat on the property in 1909, naming it Coombe Cottage after a residence she cherished during her performances at Covent Garden. Today, Coombe Yarra Valley, still owned by Melba’s descendants, the Vestey family, has evolved into a unique gourmet and cultural destination. Set amid seven acres of beautifully manicured gardens, the estate offers a world-class dining experience in its a la carte restaurant, featuring award-winning wines crafted from its vineyards. Visitors can explore the rich history of the estate through garden and gallery tours, host private events or weddings, or simply enjoy a refined wine tasting. Coombe Yarra Valley provides a perfect blend of historical charm and contemporary elegance, making it an unforgettable destination in the heart of the Yarra Valley.
