Description:
Tibooburra Vineyard, which is located at Yellingbo in the Upper Yarra, was established in 1996 on north and north-westerly slopes next door to the original site of Chateau d'Yves, a vineyard which thrived in the district in the 1890s and into the early 1900s. Wine from Chateau d'Yves used to be transported by horse and cart past Tibooburra's back gates. It was the passion of Belgian bacteriologist and chemist Auguste de Bavay, a contemporary of Louis Pasteur. De Bavay revolutionalised the yeast cultures and fermentation techniques of the Foster Brewing Company in Melbourne. Chateau d'Yves is long gone now but Tibooburra's plantings comprise: Pinot Noir 9 hectares; Chardonnay 9 hectares; Sauvignon Blanc 6 hectares and Shiraz 7 hectares.
