Planted in 1973 on Tasmania’s east coast, Bream Creek is one of the state’s oldest vineyards. The original 5 hectares consisted mainly of Riesling and Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller plantings of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer.
After purchasing the property in August 1990, Fred’s priority was to increase Pinot Noir plantings and introduce Sauvignon Blanc and Schonburger (the first commercial plantings in the Southern Hemisphere of this rare German varietal). With his dedication and passion, this pristine vineyard is now a 7.5 hectare showcase of grape varieties ideally suited to the cool maritime climate of East coast Tasmania.
Marion Bay is steeped in history. Bream Creek Vineyard overlooks the place where Abel Tasman first landed in 1642 to collect water and to plant the Dutch flag. Later in 1772, French Navigator Marion du Fresne anchored his ships Mascarin and Castries in what is now known as Marion Bay.
Today, the Bream Creek district is a rural area with a small but thriving coastal community, well known for its painters, sculptors, fine furniture makers, jewellers and potters. Bream Creek Vineyard forms an integral part of this passionate rural mosaic.
Cape Bernier is a family owned and operated property dedicated to the production of fine wine. Located on the slopes of an ancient volcanic range with expansive ocean views and modulating sea breezes, Cape Bernier's maritime climate and rich soils provide the ideal growing conditions for cool climate varietal wines. Our long, slow ripening period in cool, dry, sunny condition produces wine with intense fruit flavours and high natural acids.
Established in 1998, the vineyard has 4 ha under vine producing Pinot Noir (50%), Chardonnay (25%) & Pinot Gris (25%) grapes. Our Chardonnay displays citrus and stone fruit, Pinot Gris apple, pear and honey, while our Pinot Noir is elegant, perfumed and spicy with berry, dark plum and savoury spice characters. Our sparkling wines, made in the méthode traditionelle, are dominated by fresh fruit characters, crisp acidity and smooth creamy bubbles – heavenly!
Our approach to wine-making is simple – that of minimalist intervention. We believe that growing the best quality grapes will produce the best quality wines. Using the best of both old and new world methods our wines are made to showcase the intense and zesty fruit flavours unique to Cape Bernier.

In 1998 Jim moved to Tasmania as the inaugural winemaker for Rosevears Estate in the Tamar Valley. He fell in love with Tasmanian Pinot Noir, and a Tasmanian. In 2000 Jim left Tasmania for the Hunter Valley but began the Chatto label to continue his affair with Tasmanian Pinot Noir. Jim then spent the next six years searching for the perfect vineyard site. Warm, well-drained but in a very cool region, right on the edge of viticultural possibility. Planting began in 2007 and our first vintage from Isle Vineyard (2012) was released in 2013. In 2014 we released two wines - one exclusively from our vineyard known as Isle and the other a Huon Valley Pinot introducing a small amount of fruit from neighbouring vineyards in the mix with our own.

Under new management since 2017, the new owners are excited about growing the business and producing the highest possible quality cool climate wines with a focus on Pinot, Sparkling and Tempranillo.

Since the first black cluster vines were made available for purchase from Tasmania in 1827, Tasmania has been recognized as a producer of quality Pinot Noir. It was the sloping hills overlooking Bass Strait that made the site unique and inspired the Hill-Smith family to purchase the vineyard, along with distinct single sites around Tasmania in their pursuit to produce the perfect Pinot.
Darlington Vineyard is situated on a 2 hectare site located a kilometre from the sheltered waters of Prosser Bay on Tasmania’s Freycinet coast.
The vineyard takes its name from the historical settlement of Darlington on nearby Maria Island; the site of an audacious vineyard experiment established in 1885 and abandoned a decade later.
The dry east coast conditions and the hungry soil provide Darlington with its unique terroir. Personal attention to each vine and low cropping rates ensure small berries and intense flavours in our elegant cool climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.
Quality and innovation have always been the driving forces behind winemakers Peter Dawson and Tim James.
The grapes are grown on the Meadowbank vineyard, which is located approximately 60 kms north west of Hobart. Its rugged topography is bounded by the fast flowing, pristine waters of the Derwent river.
Plantings of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir were first made in 1987. Vineyard patches selected for Dawson & James wines were planted in 1989 and vine age plays an important part in flavour development and the balance of the fruit.

In 2001 he left to establish Winemaking Tasmania. Frogmore Creek’s winemaking approach has been to "let the fruit do the talking". Our wines are fruit-driven with only enough additional intervention, oak particularly, to provide subtle complexity and enhancement to the basic fruit flavours. Generally, we do not promote malolactic fermentation in our white wines, which means that the fruit flavours are prominent and acidity remains relatively high. Both these factors mean that the wines are clean, fresh and tight in structure. We believe that such wines go very well with food and age elegantly over a long period. Our reds are made with conventional hand plunging in small batches or pumping over in larger quantities. Pressings are important to final wine structure and are always included. Similarly to the whites, our reds are fruit driven with French oak treatment intended to be just sufficient to provide balance and complexity.

ROSLYN 1823 is a permaculture-based vineyard integrated into our 30 Ha farm in the Coal River Valley in South Eastern Tasmania. Our viticultural approach is guided by the three main Ethics (earth care, people care and fair share) and 12 Principles of permaculture (Observe and interact; Catch and store energy; Obtain a yield; Apply self-regulation and accept feedback; Use and value renewable resources and services; Produce no waste; Design from patterns to details; Integrate rather than segregate; Use small and slow solutions; Use and value diversity; Use edges and value the marginal; Creatively use and respond to change).
Vigneron and owner Andrew Palmer has studied and applied permaculture and Natural Sequence Farming techniques for over a decade.
Permaculture ethics and principles, sustainability and environmental friendliness guide our approach to vineyard management. We use organic compost and mulching, a range of biological fertilisers, chickens and ducks for pest control, and sheep and alpacas for weed control to complement our standard viticultural practices. Irrigation is kept to a minimum, ensuring true flavours the reflect the nature of our terroir.
At harvest, the grapes are hand-picked, selecting only the highest quality bunches to go into producing our premium wines. Our wine maker, Robbie Drew from Tea Tree, employs his 30 years’ experience to ensure that the flavours nurtured in the Roslyn 1823 vineyard are captured in each bottle of our Pinot Noir, Riesling, Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
Spring Vale is situated at Cranbrook, north of Swansea on Tasmania's Freycinet Coast. The Freycinet Coast could otherwise be described as the mid East Coast, and Spring Vale is about in the middle of that.Continuing in the tradition of hard work and innovation established by William Lyne in 1826, Rodney and Lyn Lyne have planted 6.6 hectares of wine grapes at Spring Vale, principally Pinot Noir. The vineyard began in 1986, when a small area of two acres was planted to Pinot Noir. Further plantings were made in the following years: firstly, more Pinot Noir, then Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer, followed by Pinot Gris in 1996. In 2000, more Pinot Noir and a splash of Pinot Meunier was planted. In June 2007, Spring Vale purchased a neighbouring farm, "Melrose". The purpose of this purchase was to enable decent amounts of a lighter red to be produced, with the first "Melrose" Pinot Noir being the 2008 Vintage. The acquisition of "Melrose" brings the total production in a normal year to 120 tonnes. "Melrose" was planted in 1998 to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, and in 2008, another hectare of Gewürztraminer was planted at "Melrose".
Stargazer pays tribute to Abel Tasman, who as an explorer and navigator, must have spent a fair amount of time gazing towards the heavens. Tasman, a Dutchman under the employ of the United East India Company was the first European to sight Tasmania (on 24 November 1642) and then the South Island of New Zealand, nineteen days later on 13 December.
At its highest point the vineyard is only 30 meters above sea level, with the lowest being less than 10 meters, and it is less than 1 kilometre from the Tamar River.
We have 0.75 of a hectare of Chardonnay, 3.2 hectares of Pinot Noir and 0.2 of a hectare of recently planted Grüner Veltliner for a total of 4.2 hectares. The rows run north/south and have a row spacing of 2.2 meters and the vines are 1.2m apart giving a density of 4500 vines per hectare.
The spur pruned vines are treated individually in relation to the crop they carry. We never have more than two bunches of grapes per shoot and any vines that are weaker will only have 1 bunch per shoot which results in us averaging 1.5 bunches per shoot or 4.5 tonnes per hectare.
We are very conscious of our environment; we use minimal sprays and have not used herbicides for 3 years. We have begun to use some biodynamic preparations on the soil in an effort to build soil health which we believe will result in increased vine health.

All our grapes are lovingly tendered and hand-picked allowing for minimal spoilage to realise their full potential. Our wines are individually crafted by one of Australia's most recognised winemakers – Julian Alcorso and his team – who have over 30 years experience making award-winning Tasmanian wines.
[This winery may no longer be operating.] Located below Mt Wellington, Summerleas enjoys an especially cool mesoclimate. The black cracking clay soil over dolerite is highly regarded for viticulture, especially for chardonnay and pinot noir.
Traditionally a sheep grazing property, the passion for growing fine wool, ultimately lead to the desire to produce fine wine. Established in 1998, the vineyard is positioned on a hill above the 1860’s homestead. A mixture of ironstone and red clay loam exists over most of the site with the merlot section planted in a black clay loam.
A north east facing slope was chosen for the vineyard site with good cold air drainage down towards the river, thus reducing the risk of frost but exposing it to maxim sunlight hours, essential for the long slow ripening of cool climate wines. Vine rows running north to south allow full sun exposure, ensuring ripe full flavoured fruit. Our small vineyard (2.5ha) is planted with 16,000 vines and this high density planting is designed to produce low yields of exceptional quality. Only 350 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon and 250 cases of Riesling are made each year.
Tiger Ranch was established in 1975 when my grandfather, Tom, visited the site of our new farm at Narrawa Road, at Wilmot on the North West Coast of Tasmania. He was beguiled by stories of early farming pioneers recounting stories of catching Tasmanian Tigers in and around the area. Although believed extinct from the region, some of the stories so amused Tom that the family dairy farm was nicknamed Tiger Ranch, and since then all farming pursuits have been under the Tiger Ranch Agriculture banner and also including Awarran Park.
Two Bud Spur is one of a small group of vineyards in the Huon Valley that together make up the most southerly wine region in Australia. Our vines were planted in 1996 on a premium north facing site in Gardners Bay, Tasmania. The vineyard was purchased by marine biologists Craig Mundy and Karen Miller in August, 2006 and we released our first wines under our new Two Bud Spur Label in 2007.
Broadview Estate and Viridian Wines are located in Granton in the Derwent Valley wine region of Southern Tasmania and are owned by Lyn and Michael Rochford.
White Rock is a boutique vineyard situated in Kimberley 30kms south of Devonport on the banks of the Mersey River. The northerly aspect and cool nights creates an ideal climate for the development of intense and lasting flavours.
In the early 1800's, as much of Tasmania was still undergoing European settlement, a young marine, Private Hugh Germain, would travel into unexplored areas around Hobart Town to hunt wallaby for food for the townsfolk.
In his saddle bags he carried two books, The Holy Bible and The Arabian Knights. He used these books to name many of the places where he would camp on his hunting expeditions. Hence within close proximity, you will find Jerusalem, Jericho, River Jordan, Lake Tiberius and of course Bagdad.
The warm, open Bagdad valley soon became famous for its ability to grow many fruits such as apples, pears and stone fruits. Unfortunately there is very little water in the valley, and the area often experiences summer droughts, which led to these orchards failing after successive poor seasons. After this foray, the open grasslands became a place for grazing sheep.
In the mid 1980's we purchased a 4ha lot of land, which had been a part of the old Winstead Farm. We felt this would be an ideal place for vines. With the subdivision of the original farm, the lots were connected to the local council reticulated water scheme, meaning the terroir of the original orchards was a thing of the past. Frost was the next enemy to combat, but after taking numerous measurements and talking to some of the older inhabitants of the valley we discovered the slopes we owned were relatively frost-free. This was definitely more good luck than good management.
So in 1989 we planted a small test patch of 50 Pinot Noir vines. In 1990 we added a further 4000 vines. The die was cast. The original vineyard of 1.5ha was planted to Pinot Noir and Riesling.
In 1993 we purchased a further parcel of land 500 metres further up the valley and planted a further 1.5ha to Pinot, Sauvignon Blanc and a small test patch of Merlot. This year we will be planting a small test plot of Shiraz, which will be very interesting.
Our boutique vineyard and cellar door lies amidst the hills of the West Tamar Valley wine route between Exeter and Beaconsfield.
During the Permian age (286-245 Myr) this part of the earth suffered under a cold, glacial climate. Pebbles and limestone were deposited, which formed the rolling hill country and created a unique terroir for our vineyard.
Clean fresh air, sunny north facing slopes, and careful attention to detail enables us to grow premium fruit from which our cool climate speciality wines are hand crafted.
The name Winter Brook comes from the brook which divides two parts of our land in winter time. The tree resembles the northerly wind; the perfect condition for grape vines!
[This winery may no longer be operating.] Hand-crafted using fruit from low yielding vines, the wine has been caressed and nurtured to bottle with minimal wine-making inputs - no filtering, no fining, no fuss. Just careful attention to detail and a desire to allow the full expression of the vineyard shine through in your glass.
