Description:
In 1855 Adam Jackson bought his first blocks of land in the heart of the Marlborough region, along with what was to become known as Jacksons road. The infamous gum tree known as the ‘Grey ghost’ was planted shortly after in 1867 on the land now known as our Homestead vineyard. Fast forward to 1990 and fifth generation Jackson, John Stichbury and his wife Jo planted the first vines on the homestead block, with their first wines released in 1991 – Jackson estate wines were born. Proceeding to go from strength to strength, taking out the coveted Sauvignon Blanc trophy at the London International wine competition in 1993. In 2013 John and Jay Benton bought Jackson estate with the intention of maintaining the fantastic boutique wine reputation around the world. In 2016 the Benton’s started building the pinot specific winery and cellar door and opened in 2017. The ideas behind it is to keep control of the quality and focussing on hand crafted pinot noir to continue. With Brian Massey (art director of the Hobbit trilogy) tasked with creating a concept for the building he brought the X factor with ‘collision architecture’. Based on the original 1850’s settlers huts with the juxtaposition of the burgundy coloured winery jutting out from the centre, walking inside into a contemporary and stylish tasting room.
