Good winemakers seem to have a passion for both good wines and their dogs and this is definitely the case with Witches Falls Owner and Chief Winemaker Jon Heslop.
Ralph, the Witches Falls winery dog, has a very special personality – he is confident, loveable and very entertaining. And, since these same qualities are the essence of our Bird Dog Range of wines, we thought who better to feature on the label than Ralph himself.
There has been a vineyard at Bungawarra for more than 100 years.
We owe much to the legacy of Angelo Barbagallo, who came to Bungawarra in the 1920s as a post-war migrant and stayed for 50 years. The name Bungawarra (which means "Granite Rock by Shallow Water") was first used in 1975. Current plantings total 5.5 hectares of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Chardonnay, Semillon and Traminer vines, and still include the Muscat vines from Angelo's time (these are now over 80 years old).
Golden Grove Estate is a family-owned and operated winery in the heart of the Granite Belt, southeast Qld.
Growing and making wines on-site for nearly 75 years.
Husband and wife team Warren and Sue have been crafting luscious expressions of cool-climate Stanthorpe wines for over 20 years. Wines made with passion and integrity at their beautiful vineyard and winery nestled in the foothills of Girraween, only 20 minutes from Stanthorpe on the Granite Belt. Enjoy an immersive learning experience with the winemaker, whilst you view the winery action through the window of the historic cellar door.
Since our first vintage in 2001, our Verdelhos have lead the way in establishing Verdelho as a variety that is specially suited to the Granite Belt. Our first 3 vintages won the Trophy for Queensland’s Best White Wine. Since then they have won regular gold medals, high praise from wine critics and a silver medal in London. Our Verdelho has been served at a formal banquet for the Queen, at banquets in State and Federal parliament and our 2009 Verdelho was selected as teh Queensland Parliament's 150th Anniversary White Wine.
Bob and Una Gray purchased the property in 1974 and planted and grafted (onto existing rootstocks) classic wine grape varieties. The winery then established is the second oldest continuing winemaking venture on the Granite Belt.
Rumbalara was bought from the Gray’s by Mike and Bobbi Cragg in December 2002. Stephen Oliver is Rumbalara’s winemaker and concentrates on making wines that are fruit driven, aromatic and easy to drink. This wine style has proven to be very popular with our customers and all our wine range is selling very well.
All wines are produced on site with some of the grapes being purchased from our neighbours on the Granite Belt. The Cellardoor has been enlarged and redecorated to accommodate more people at the counter. We have also installed a fireplace to warm the cellar door in winter.
With its core vineyards almost 1000 metres above sea level in the cool climate Granite Belt, Settlers Rise produces small-batch wines that are a clear expression of the terroir. Hand-harvested, hand-selected and expertly crafted by Peter Scudamore Smith MW, the wines reflect the winemaking ethos of protecting wine quality throughout the journey from vine to wine.
Our philosophy is based on the fact that superb fruit quality makes for outstanding wine. Therefore, we have minimal interference in the wine-making process.
Our production is limited to between 100 to 160 cases of each varietal every year.
We have great belief in the French concept of 'terrior'. This, as the French say, is a 'sense of place where the grapes grow'. That sense of place is the micro-climate in the vineyard, or even within a patch of grapes.
