The Bussell name is famously entrenched in Margaret River history, recognised by the township of Busselton which was named after them. The Bussell’s were a distinguished pioneering family. Brothers Alfred, John, Charles, Lenox and Vernon emigrated from England to Western Australia in 1829.
On arriving at the Swan River Colony in March 1830, the Bussell brothers were advised that most of the good land near the Swan River had already been granted. The Governor of Western Australia, Sir James Stirling suggested they instead join with a number of other families in joining a new sub-colony at Augusta.
The following month, Stirling sailed with a party of prospective settlers to the south west corner of the state. After arriving at the mouth of the Blackwood River, the party spend four days exploring the area. Stirling then confirmed his decision to establish a sub colony and the town of Augusta declared at the site.
For four years the brothers tried unsuccessfully to establish a farm, initially at Augusta and then further up the Blackwood River. The brothers had immense difficulty clearing the land, and found the soil not particularly good for farming.
This Wilyabrup Estate is the living dream of Francesca and Gianfranco Anderle.

[This winery may no longer be operating.] Winemaker Sam Glaetzer leads the Cartwheel winemaking team, bringing
with him a wealth of award winning experience and the talent that has become synonymous with the Glaetzer name in Australian winemaking circles.
Sam Glaetzer is a winemaker with an unmistakable pedigree. Born in South Australia's Mt Gambier in 1974, Sam grew up amongst winemakers of an extremely high-calibre. His father, Colin, is currently working as a winemaker and Sam's uncle is well-known Wolf Blass legend John Glaetzer.
During his youth Sam lived in such renowned wine growing areas as Rutherglen, the Barossa Valley and Great Western.
Due to this constant exposure to the highs and lows of life as a winemaker and despite completing qualifications as an engineer, Sam decided to continue the Glaetzer family traditition and completed the world-famous Roseworthy winemaking course at Adelaide University.
While at university, Sam worked as a cellarhand at Barossa Valley Estates and went on to various roles within Beringer Blass, using his engineering background to become Environmental Engineer and working through to his current position as one of the Senior Winemakers.
Sam has a desire to make wines that consumers the world-over can enjoy, and is well on the way to achieving this goal with the release of the new Cartwheel range.
Married to another Beringer Blass winemaker, Kirsten Glaetzer, and with brother Ben also in the field, Sam has little chance of getting away from winemaking. However, when he does take a break, he enjoys his time mountain bike riding, cooking and travelling.
Clairault Streicker is a family owned grower and wine producer based in Margaret River. We are the owners and caretakers of four distinct sites spanning multiple sub-regions. Our oldest vineyard, established in 1976, is also home to our signature cellar door and vineyard kitchen. Clairault Streicker wines are authentic and classically-styled, setting a benchmark for the Margaret River region.
Our farm is located on rich bushland connecting to the Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park, which extends down to the edge of the Indian Ocean. We work within the sound of the sea whose influence on the grapes is tangible. Cooling maritime breezes mitigate warm daytime temperatures, allowing our grapes to ripen slowly and to gather flavour.
The Credaro family first settled in Margaret River in 1922 as a pioneering family to the region, after migrating from Northern Italy. Initially involved in farming and the timber industry, small plots of vines were planted to provide the family with table wine.
Cesar Credaro was the first generation of the family to reside in the area of Margaret River and he worked in the one of the first vineyards in the region. Though it no longer exists today, it was a five acre vineyard that was established around 1915, near Commonage Road. He would work on this property whenever possible, between his farming and timber interests.
Cesar, with the help of the family took some cuttings from the Yallingup vineyard where he worked and planted an acre of the Italian Red Variety (Fragola) at Carbunup. The family would make a parcel of wine every year, for themselves and the neighbouring families. The Fragola has now evolved from site to site with each generation of the family over the years. This wine today is known as the Credaro Family Estate Fragola.
Today the family manages 120 hectares of vines in the sub-regions of Carbunup, Treeton, Yallingup and Wallcliffe. The Credaro family own three separate vineyards, with current plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Merlot and two small plots of Fragola and Gewurztraminer.
The Credaro Winery is situated in Carbunup and was built in 2003. The Credaro Family Estate wines identify the best parcels of fruit from selected vineyards owned and managed by the family.
Over the past 12 years the Kelly family have developed a Caves Road, Margaret River vineyard and olive grove, and has now decided it is time to release their own label, Della Fay. Shiraz fruit sourced from the Geographe region is part of the selection too.

The first vines were planted in 2006 and Grace Farm was one of the first vineyards in the district to plant the vines into weed matting, avoiding the repeated use of herbicide sprays that often accompany vineyard establishment. The vines have been grown sustainably with organic based fertilizers and biodynamic composting. Currently Grace Farm does not have a cellar door. Should you be interested you can arrange a tasting by appointment only. Tastings are conducted by the vineyard manager, Tim Quinlan, in conjunction with the winemaker, Jonathan Mettam.

Juniper Estate is a producer of premium wines in Wilyabrup, the heart of the Margaret River wine-growing area, a remote, environmentally pristine coastal region that lies in the south west corner of Australia about 270km south of the state capital, Perth. When the vineyard was planted there were only a few other producers in the region, Vasse Felix; Cape Mentelle, Cullen, Moss Wood and Woodlands. Today there are in excess of 200 vineyards.
Juniper was established by the late Roger Hill and his partner Gillian Anderson with the intention of producing wines which rank with the best to come from Wilyabrup and beyond. Its wines are true to the style of the Margaret River region, showing depth, finesse and elegance, with careful use of oak providing added complexity. With winemaker Mark Messenger at the helm, Juniper Margaret River has achieved great success, accumulating multiple trophies and an enviable reputation, particularly for Cabernet Sauvignon.
In 1973, Dr Benjamin Barry Killerby established one of the first vineyards in the Geographe region using vine cuttings obtained from his friend Dr Bill Pannell at Moss Wood. Dr Killerby then established a second vineyard in Margaret River in 1977.
Since its establishment in 1973, Killerby has grown to be one of Western Australia's leading small wineries, with a reputation for producing an outstanding range of varietal wines, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Semillon. The cellar door is situated in the world famous Margaret River region of Western Australia, about 3 hours drive south from Perth. The region is indebted to the dedicated and passionate wine lovers who laid the foundation for what is today one of the greatest wine producing areas in Australia and indeed the world.
Killerby maintains its small winery essence with most of its winemaking techniques and philosophies remaining the same since it was first established. The wine is made using small batch techniques; highest quality French oak barrels and meticulous attention to winemaking detail. 2014 marks the centenary year for Killerby, to commemorate this achievement we have created ‘The Killerby Icon Cabernet Sauvignon’ marking 100 years of trading in the south west.

[This winery may no longer be operating.] Phil & Louise Snowball planted their very small vineyard on their weekend escape property in Margaret River in 2000. The property is located just west of Leeuwin Estate. After discussion with well known vigneron Bill Pannell (Moss Wood founder & currently at Picardy vineyard) it was decided to grow Bordeaux varieties with a view to making a typical Bordeaux blend. Phil and Louise wanted to produce an elegant wine rather than the often powerful high-alcohol Australian red.

Our strong belief is in the northern Margaret River fruit that can deliver "Mediterranean" style wines that are great for drinking...with or without food. The moderating effects of the temperate maritime climate combined with unique soils and wet and cold winters, provide ideal growing conditions for wine grapes that are both elegant and robust.
The purchase of the 42 hectare Treeton Road property was finalised in December 1997 and in 1998 the first vines - Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc - were planted. Tassell Park's red varieties - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Petit Verdot - were planted progressively from 1998 to 2001.
The launch of the Tassell Park Wines label in 2001 was closely followed by the construction of the existing winery and cellar door building.
Jane and Peter Thompson purchased the Thompson Estate property in 1994, and the first plantings of chardonnay and pinot were in 1997, followed by the cabernet plantings in 1998 and new Burgundian clones of chardonnay in 2009.
In 2018 they purchased a vineyard planted 1997 in nearby Treeton which has brought the total plantings of mature vines to 40 hectares.
The vineyards have the ideal number of sun exposure days per year for optimal ripening, and surrounded by sea on three sides on the South West cape of Western Australia, allowing the cooling maritime breezes keep the fruit cool and add intensity of flavours similar to the great years of the Bordeaux region of France.
Thompson Estate and its immediate neighbours in Wilyabrup produce some of Australia’s “icon status” chardonnays and cabernets. Tripe.Iscariot started as an experiment in flavour, texture and style. 7 years later it has been refined into a dedication to intensity in flavour, fineness in texture, and distinction in style.

We started searching for just the right site to plant a vineyard in 2002, and eventually found our property at Chapman Hill in 2003. Our Whicher Ridge brand ideas crystallised into a plan to build up a range of six regional wines over the next few years.
After much research (involving wine tasting of course!), in 2004 and 2005 we planted three of Bordeaux's great varieties, sauvignon blanc, petit verdot and cabernet sauvignon, as well as a lesser known Rhone variety, viognier on our farm.
We decided that our Whicher Ridge shiraz and riesling would come from the Frankland River region, and that we would also make a Margaret River Chardonnay. After searching for just the right vineyards for each of these varieties, we made our first Riesling and Shiraz in 2009, and the first release of our Chardonnay is the 2012.
