Domaine de Beaurepaire is located just outside the historic township of Rylstone, about 50 km southeast of the equally historical town of Mudgee. Rylstone is part of the Mudgee "G.I.C" (or appellation area), although it is about 200m higher in elevation than Mudgee and with a significantly different climatic profile.
The longer ripening periods and later harvesting of grapes produces classic cool-climate characteristics that are found in De Beaurepaire wines.

In 1854 Andreas Kurtz the Great Grandfather of Alfred Gustave Kurtz, migrated from Bavaria to Australia. Andreas was a weaver and a wine maker and planted the vineyard in 1856. He was also known as 'Farmer Kurtz' in Henry Lawson's (1867 - 1922) famous poem 'The Days When We Went Swimming'. ‘He leased a forty-acre block, and thought he owned the county’. The vineyard was named 'Cudgegong River Valley' situated in Eurunderee and managed by David Kurtz (Alfred Kurtz's Grandfather).
During the 1960's Alfred Kurtz took over the management of the vineyard and started to lay down the foundations of success. Through his creative flair and hard work he succeeded in creating fine wines in the Mudgee region and the vineyard later to become 'Mudgee Wines'.
The present owners are continuing the fine old traditions of the winery. The famous 'Old Bush Vine Shiraz' is made from the vines dating back over 150 years. All the fruit is grown, and wine produced and created in the winery from local selected Mudgee fruit. The large storage on the site enables wine to be sold locally, nationally and internationally, with total production exceeding one million litres.
[This winery may no longer be operating.] We make small batches of our reds which allows us to focus purely on quality, picking only the most exceptional patches of selected vineyards. Small batches also mean we can spare nothing in the winemaking process in the pursuit of that quality and finesse. Handpicking, hand-plunging open fermentation vats, as much new French and American oak maturation as required to balance the style, and copious attention to detail are all within our means.
HAND-PICKED HANDMADE MUDGEE WINES
Each year we hand-pick our best fruit to make small batches of wine on our family-owned and run vineyard nestled in the loam and clay hills of Mudgee, Australia.

[This winery may no longer be operating.] The Willow Lane Vineyard is a 50-acre estate located in the beautiful Mudgee Valley - a region well known for its rich volcanic soils, flecked with glinting blocks of quartz. Combined with plenty of sunshine and almost ideal wine-growing conditions, the region produces distinctive full-bodied wines, especially its Chardonnay and Shiraz.
Here at the Willow Lane Vineyard, our winemaking philosophy is simple: minimal intervention across all stages of the winemaking process resulting in wines with balance, structure and complexity, exuding an elegance of subtle fruit flavours. We believe our wines express the true characteristics of each variety and demonstrate the distinctive regional essence of the Mudgee Valley.
