Vignerons Nadja Wallington and Steve Mobbs are a husband and wife team who recently launched their boutique wine brand Chalou Wines in 2021. Nadja and Steve both grew up on small vineyards and fell in love with the world of wine. They met at university whilst studying winemaking before going their separate ways to gain experience making wine across the globe. In 2014 they came to Orange and saw the opportunity within the region to make exceptional wines. In 2022 Nadja was awarded Young Winemaker of the year and ChaLou Wines has been recognised as a finalist in 2022+2023 for Young Guns of Wine.
At ChaLou Wines Nadja and Steve have a bud to bottle operation; they grow all their own grapes, then make and bottle all their wines onsite. Their vineyard sits at a cool 900m on Ordovician soils. Their winemaking focuses on fruit quality; harnessing the expression of their site, with minimal intervention and thoughtful winemaking focusing on Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Syrah.
Vignerons Bill and Jane Shrapnel are on a mission which they simply summarise as: unique vineyard, pristine fruit and distinctive, high quality wines. Perched at 980 metres above sea level in the high country of the Orange Wine Region, their six-hectare Colmar Estate vineyard, dedicated to classic varieties, has a terroir all its own. The super cool-but-sunny climate ensures slow development of bell clear varietal flavours while retaining fine, natural acidity. Yields are low, the entire vineyard is hand-picked and the grapes hand-sorted, all intended to present the winemakers with superb fruit – the foundation of all great wines.
In a few short years Colmar Estate’s small batches of elegant, pure, single-vineyard wines have won wide acclaim and propelled it to the forefront of quality producers in the dynamic Orange Wine Region.
Cooks Lot is a boutique winery producing wines from the premium cool climate region of Orange.
Winemaker and proprietor of Cooks Lot wines, Duncan Cook studied winemaking at Charles Sturt University formerly working as a chef for many years.
Cooks Lot works with a number of small growers in Orange and on occasion other regions, that focus on growing premium fruit. The climate in Orange is strongly influenced by, and largely dependent on elevation. Cooks Lot fruit is grown in several vineyards at different altitudes and soils, rather than a single vineyard which is often the norm in Australia.
The name originated from the fact that we were working with several individual vineyard ‘Lots’ hence the name ‘Cooks Lot’ as many wines were and still are from single vineyard lots.
Cooks Lot's cellar door can be found at Ferment Wine Bar: Open 7 days 11am-8pm. Cheese & Charcuterie is available.

The dream started long before the acquisition of Koomooloo (vineyard site) in 1988. Philip spent years investigating and exploring many regions within Australia until by accident Philip noticed the undulating roll of the countryside when flying over the Orange region. After a few days of intense research into this highland area he returned the next week to find the region had a near-perfect balance of elevation and sunshine.
The adventure began when Philip purchased the land for his Koomooloo vineyard in June 1988. In close proximity to the region’s highest peak, Mt Canobolas, Koomooloo vineyard rises to an altitude of 900M with red loam soils over limestone.
Our various vineyard sites around 1000m altitude make our wine unique, combined with our minimal intervention approach & gentle handling in the winery. Our wines taste distinctly "like ours" because of each small, individual decision we make in the winery. It is also the inherent characters in our fruit, which are borne out of the many distinct characteristics of our soils and climate on our small patch of Gaanha Bula/Mt Canobolas.
The Samodol family established Rowlee vineyard in 2000. The eight hectare vineyard sits in ancient volcanic soils, 950 metres above sea level – exposed to the cool climate and unique topography of the Orange Wine Region. Plantings include Arneis, Chardonnay, Gewurtztraminer, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir.
Winemaking commenced in 2013 with the launch of the Single Vineyard label, allowing Rowlee to produce varietals of distinct character and flavour sourced exclusively from their estate.
