Fi & Col Sheppard established Flaxman Wines in 2004 when they purchased the vineyard in picturesque Eden Valley, Barossa, made the vine-change and moved across from Melbourne. The vineyard includes 3 acres of Riesling, 2.5 acres of Shiraz and 1/2 acre of Semillon, all planted in 1929. Small parcels of Grenache, Mataro, Chardonnay and Cabernet are also purchased to broaden the line-up of wines on offer. The grapes are hand-picked each year and all wines (except the Riesling) are made onsite.
A boutique Eden Valley producer, Flaxman features a cellar door open to the public on Thursday 11-4, Friday 11-5, Saturday 11-5 and Sunday 11-4pm and they have a select number of wines available for tasting each day. Cheese platters with both local and international cheeses are available on weekends and our award winning Long Leisurely Lunches are held on the first Saturday of each month.
From the magnificent sweep of country known as Heggies Vineyard, comes understated but inspiring examples of modern Australian cool-climate Chardonnay and Riesling. Elevated at 520m above sea level in the high country of Eden Valley, this unrivalled tapestry of single vineyards forms the foundation from which truly unique, expressive wines are crafted. On every Heggies Vineyard bottle is the image of a man sitting on top of his horse and surveying the land. The man’s name is Colin Heggie, a local grazier and the original owner of the picturesque property before he sold it to his old friend, Wyndham Hill Smith. Wyndham had an eye for great vineyard sites and he could see the potential for growing quality grapes on this magnificent sweep of country that had been grazing land. Its rolling hills and native flora showed all the signs of a spectacular cold-climate vineyard site.
The Henschke family has been making wine since Johann Christian Henschke planted a small vineyard on his diverse farming property at Keyneton in 1862. Today, it is fifth-generation Stephen Henschke and his wife Prue at the helm, passionately upholding the family name and reputation. This highly regarded team has won a multitude of awards that recognise the complementary nature of their roles - Stephen as winemaker and Prue as viticulturist.
Pewsey Vale Vineyard’s love affair with Riesling started in 1847, when our vineyard was the first planted in the Eden Valley.
A hidden utopia, our family reinvigorated Pewsey Vale Vineyard in the 1960s. The focus fell sharply on the beauty and diversity of Riesling in its many forms.
One vineyard. One variety. One vision.
This vision has seen Pewsey Vale Vineyard create the most awarded and beloved Riesling in Australia.

Radford were determined to embrace the land and input as much as they could to create a viable, sustainable environment. Since then they have produced Riesling from the old vines on their property planted in the 1930s– the first vintage in 2003 was under the Radford Dale label. Shiraz followed shortly in 2004. Now producing wine solely under their "Radford" label, their aim and focus has been refined in the last few years. This includes a stronger more powerful commitment in their belief of "textural & flavourful" wines. Hand made in every sense of the word, and with an unwavering emphasis on terroir, these site specific vineyards produce lovely supple wines of elegance & integrity.

[This winery may no longer be operating.] Our winemaking philosophy is to allow the terrior of our distinctive vineyard site to be evident in our wines. We pick our grapes when ripe but not super ripe, use only French oak barrels and our wines are not filtered or fined. Our aim is to produce wines with a classic acid/tannin structure, vivid fruit flavours and with complexity coming from outstanding quality grapes not from winemaking "tricks".
