During a fleeting half century in the global wine community, the Hesketh family has always followed the path less travelled by. It is appropriate therefore, that our winemaking combines the traditional elements of vineyard selection and hands on winemaking, with a contemporary approach to the wines we make, and from where we make them.
All of our wines are made in a house style, which reflects the family's passion for wine, understanding of wine quality, and over ninety years combined experience both working with wine and imbibing it.
Since 1851, five generations of the Bryson family have been involved in agriculture and the unique and fertile land of South Australia.
At Mt. Monster, it is our sole objective to produce the best wines possible from our unique vineyard site. Located in the Padthaway valley which is comprised of rich Terra Rosa soils our estate vineyard benefits from excellent sun exposure producing grapes of optimum flavour, colour and tannin development. The warm summer days are moderated each evening by coastal winds that cool the vines and result in a longer ripening period. This extended period allows for the grape tannins and seed to fully ripen prior to being harvested, thus creating wines that are rich and supple on the palate.
Named after the meandering lakes and adjoining fields to the vineyards, Thompson Steer is a brand reflecting all that is unique to this vineyard location, providing a selection of premium wines from the Limestone Coast and Coonawarra regions.
