Brothers Matt and James and their father Robin, have a passion for focussed hand crafted wines that reflect the Bannockburn region.
With just our passports and backpacks, a passion for adventure, travel, and wine inspired us to ‘chase harvest’ across five continents, eight countries, and 25 vintages. We use our experiences from the world’s greatest wine regions to handcraft our limited wines. Of all the world’s wine regions that we have worked, Central Otago, New Zealand and the Douro Valley, Portugal have inspired us most where we now spare no effort in crafting characterful wines that reflect these unique regions.
Domaine Rewa is a tiny 5.5 hectare vineyard located on the fluvial terrace nestled in the foothills of the Pisa Range. Although the property was planted in 1997, 2011 was Domaine Rewa’s first vintage. Production is 10k bottles per year.
Wanting to make the most of this special plot of land, Philippa Shepherd works with Grant Rolston, Gary Ford and winemaker Pete Bartle to pursue her dream of producing refined wines inspired by the elegance of Burgundy.
To ensure the Domaine remains the best possible custodian of the land, biodynamic land practices are deployed - the result is pure and perfumed wines expressive of the Central Otago terroir, renowned as one of the finest in NZ.
Domaine Thomson brand - The first vines were planted in 2000 on 14 hectares of gently sloping glacial terraces above Lake Dunstan, with Mt Pisa in the background. The combination of the north-east facing terraces and the warmth of the lake has given us a unique terroir which enables us to produce a wine which is reflective of the strengths of Central Otago - structure and complexity.

Description:
Bill & Sibylla Moffitt who own Dry Gully live and maintain the vineyard. Sibylla grew up here as a child and has many memories of how it used to be, gold mining, dredges and fruit trees. The vineyard was planted in 1991 and is predominately Pinot Noir, producing a consistently charming and elegant wine, acknowledged internationally for it quality.
Advised by legendary Central Otago viticulturist Robin Dicey, planting of our first vines commenced in late 2003. We carefully selected clones and rootsocks proven locally to make wines with complexity, flavour, balance and length and have done everything possible to ensure the vines have been able to reach their full potential. We strongly believe that low yields are of paramount importance in creating outstanding Pinot Noir and we manage our vines intensively through the growing season to ensure crop levels are around 3.5 - 4.5 tonnes per hectare.
Our approach to winemaking is based on the traditional philosophy and practices of the 'Old World'. We believe that hand picking optimally ripe fruit and then gently guiding it through vinification with as little intervention as possible allows us to produce elegant wines with flavour and structure that authentically reflect the special place they come from - wines that really are "Handmade from Central Otago"
The vines at Folding Hill are a mixture of UCD 5, UCD 6, Abel and Dijon clones (113, 114, 115, 667, 777) grafted onto a variety of phylloxera resistant rootstocks (Schwartzmann, Riparia Gloire, 3309 and 101-14)
Almost all of our viticulture is done by hand. The vines are spur pruned in the winter and we use a vertical shoot positioning canopy system. Inground water monitoring allows us to precisely meet the vines' irrigation requirements.
Crop loads are kept very low by shoot thinning and also by selective bunch thinning after fruit set. Typically our yields are between 3.5 and 4.5 tonnes / hectare and we believe that cropping at this very low level is a key contributor to the concentration of our wines.
Nanny Goat Vineyard is named after the wild goats that roam the mountainous terrain of the Central Otago. The name came about somewhat serendipitously in late 2004 during a trek to a restaurant, nestled high above the picturesque town of Queenstown, for some breath taking scenery, good food and of course some great Central Otago Pinot Noir.
Nevis Bluff wines are sourced from their vineyard in the Pisa sub-region of Central Otago; a region famed for long, hot summer days and cool nights. A slow ripening period produces intense fruit flavours, resulting in wines with rich aromatics, concentrated complexity and dense fruit sweetness. With a philosophy to only select premium grapes and to age their wine before release Nevis Bluff has, since 1998 earned a reputation as Pinot specialists with a dedication to excellence. It is this passion combined with their unique terroir and natural winemaking approach that produces their premium wines.
Rock n Pillar Vineyard is on the north facing slopes, amongst the rocky tors, overlooking the Dunstan Basin. Its extreme daytime heat and cold night time temperatures pronounce Pinot Noirs’s fruity aromas and flavours, which are encouraged with the special attention given to the vines. Ageing in French barriques and encouraging indigenous fermentation allows you to try this special, unadulterated Pinot Noir. Rock n Pillar is dedicated to quality, the protection of our environment and its endemic species.
The Two Sisters vineyard grows quietly on a steep north facing slope and is managed with minimal intervention. Located in the Lowburn Valley, Central Otago, New Zealand, our wine reflects the dedicated work by a small team in the vineyard and winery.
WINES are handcrafted in my winery from the specially chosen vineyard sites in Queenstown, Bendemeer, Lake Hayes, Cromwell basin, and Roxburgh in Otago New Zealand. Wine years range from 1999 to the NEW wines of 2010.
It was the sea and not the land that originally lured Wild Earth Wines and Stoaker Room owner Quintin Quider to New Zealand. Being a commercial diver, he fell in love with the South Island’s rugged landscape, but most of all with its people, which inspired the move from South California to Stewart Island.
Food and wine were always a passion, so developing a bond with Central Otago Pinot Noir was an easy, natural, next step. After a series of ear problems Quintin decided to hang up his wetsuit and begin his next journey, Wild Earth Wines.
