Description:
Leogate Estate Winery is situated on Brokenback Vineyard which was planted by the Rothbury Group (led by the late Len Evans) in the 1970’s, and purchased by Bill and Vicki Widin in 2008 with some 160 acres under vine. In 2010 Leogate leased the former Tempus Two Winery and purchased all of that winery’s plant and equipment. Mark Woods was engaged as Senior Winemaker later that year. The new Winery building on Brokenback Vineyard was completed in 2012. A separate new building houses the Leogate Estate Cellar Door, Restaurant, and Function Centre. A second label, “The Gatecrasher”, was initiated in 2013 for other red grape varieties purchased from vineyards in Mudgee and Young, and delivered overnight to the Leogate Estate Winery for processing. Leogate Estate has an impressive list of trophies and medals from various wine shows, including the James Rogers Trophy awarded at the July, 2014 International Wine Challenge in London to the Leogate Estate 2011 “The Basin” Reserve Shiraz for the “best wine in its first year of production”.
